F visa for students in America

F visa in the United States of America is provided to the students who want to enter country to study. It is a non-immigrant issued to the foreign nationals, so that they can attend classes in America. These classes are related to academic studies in various subjects and language training. F-1 visas are issued by U.S. embassies and consulates outside the nation.

There are three types of F visa:

F-1: It is issued to the students who will attend school or university in America full time.

F-2: This visa is allowed to the dependents of F-1 visa holders. These dependents include spouses and children.

F-3: It is issued to border commuters. They live in their home country while studying at a school in the America. It is only for the Mexican or Canadian nationals, whether they study full time or part time.

Students who are granted F-1 visa must be able to support themselves while living in US. During the stay, their options of legal employment are very limited. They are not permitted to work in country without getting authorization from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Get to know about the J-1 Visa in the United States

J-1 is a non-immigrant visa, which is issued to the exchange visitor and interns that are participating in cultural, research or educational exchange program. It is also allowed to the students who want to enter United States to receive medical, business or some other training or to the employees who are on job training for a limited period. These programs can be sponsored either by private sector or government.

Stay - The period of stay in this visa is till the end of exchange program. After the end of program, visitor can still stay in America for next 30 days, which is called grace period. These 30 days are given to the visitor so that he can prepare for leaving the country.

 

According to Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) there are different categories in this visa. For private sector programs, this visa is issued in the category of student of secondary school, alien physician, summer camp counselor, Au pair and educare, intern, teacher, trainee, and for the training of flight etc.

In the programs related to academics and government, the categories are government visitor, professor, research scholars, specialist, international visitor, scholar of short-term and student of college or university. For the spouses or unmarried children, who are under the age of 21, of J-1 holders, J-2 visa is issued by US embassy.
